Music Theory

Most instrument classes for beginners are 1/2 hour in length and are focused mainly on the mechanics of the instrument and learning the notes to play. There is not enough time to learn much about other key musical concepts and to do important exercises for development which can in turn slow down progress. Interested young students are capable of much more.

Intro to Music Theory (Year 1 – beginner level, all ages)

This class is designed to help create well-rounded musicians with a more holistic understanding of the musical language beyond just learning to play an instrument.

Class is focused on:

– Basic building blocks of music – notes, intervals, scales and chords and how it all works together
– Sight-reading exercises
– Rhythm and counting exercises
– Ear training exercises

By adding this class to the instrument class, students not only learn other important aspects of music training but can accelerate their overall learning and advancement. (30 mins)
