The Greater Richmond School of Music (GRSM) will provide music instruction (private and group lessons as well as a Band Prep Program) at St. Benedict Catholic School for the 2016-2017 school year.  Two music recitals are planned for all registered GRSM students on Jan 22nd and June 11th for those who are interested in performing.

Band Prep (Gr 4th-8th)

REGISTRATION DEADLINE – December 15th, 2016

  This 5-month program (Jan 5th-June 1st, 2017) is designed for beginner students in Grades 4th-8th who have an interest in joining the Greater Richmond School of Music (GRSM) Band Program (or any other band program) in 2017-2018.  Students will be prepared for the Band Program through the following means.

Performance on Recorder or Basic Percussion
Movement & Playing in a Musical Environment
Recognition of Strong and Weak Beats
Musical Symbols & Meanings
Reading Music Notation
Active Listening
Intonation & Tone
Instrument Recognition
Rhythmic Literacy
Ear Training

Band Director: Anthony Casamassima, B.M., Florida Atlantic University; M.M., University of South Florida

Day of Week: Thursdays (Jan 5th – June 1st, 2017)
Grades: 4th-5th (12:20-1:20pm*)
                  6th-8th (11:30am-12:30pm*)
Class Minimum: 5 per group
Tuition: $220 (or $44/month)
One-time Family Registration fee: $25
Materials: Recorder or Percussion kit; Lesson Book; Music Sheets; Music Stand

 

*NOTE: The only time available for St. Benedict School for the 2016-2017 school year for this program is during the lunch/recess session (with a short overlap on either end).  Students will be given ample opportunity to eat comfortably during this time while at the same time not detracting from the necessary instruction.  With enough interest in the Band Program for 2017-2018, the plan is to have a time option which does not affect the lunch/recess break.

Private & Group Lessons

Private and Group Lessons take place at St. Benedict School from 3-6pm Monday-Friday.  Registration is accepted for private lessons at any time throughout the school year and tuition costs will be prorated for those who register after the start date.  Currently,  private lessons are available in piano, voice, violin, viola, saxophone, bassoon, clarinet and flute.  Contact GRSM for private lesson slot availability.  See the Schedule & Tuition link below for group lesson availability.
