GRSM @ The Steward School

The Greater Richmond School of Music (GRSM) will provide music instruction through extra-curricular private lessons, chamber ensembles and group classes at The Steward School for the 2019-2020 school year.

Registration Forms should be scanned and emailed to info@grsm.net, faxed to 866-357-0239 or mailed to GRSM, 9109 Dickey Drive, Mechanicsville Va 23116. Tuition is payable in full up front or in equal monthly payments during the session.  There is a one-time Family Registration Fee of $25.  

ALL INSTRUCTORS hold Music Degrees

There are NO CLASSES on Early Closing days or days that The Steward School is Closed.

Private Lessons start the week of Sept 3rd. Registration is on-going and tuition is pro-rated.

Private Lessons

(Violin, Viola, Cello, Upright Bass, Bass Guitar, Guitar, Mandolin and now PIANO!!)

Private lessons provide focused, one-on-one instruction with a master teacher. Lessons are scheduled weekly during the term and are offered in 30, 45, or 60 minute intervals. Recitals are included in tuition and will be held at the end of each semester for all registered students who are interested.  Beginning ages for each instrument varies.

 Private lessons have Open Registration throughout the school year (tuition pro-rated).

Tuesdays – 4:30-6:00pm (possibly earlier)

Instructor: Ayca Kartari – Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Bass Guitar, Piano

Fridays – 4:30-6:00pm (possibly earlier)

Instructor: Nathan Aldhizer – Guitar, Mandolin, Cello, Beginning Violin, Piano

Please indicate on the flip side of the registration form ALL POSSIBLE TIMES (within the range provided above) that your child is available for private lessons.

Chamber Music Ensembles

This semester long program will be offered on all instruments (piano, guitar, strings, woodwinds, brass, voice, percussion).  Class days/times will be set based on audition results (call for appt) and student availability.

Group Classes

(Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass and Guitar)

Group classes provide a high-quality foundation for musical study.  Taught in a small group setting, these classes are an alternative to traditional private lessons and offer an exciting and affordable approach to beginning musical instruction.  A minimum number of registrations is required in order to confirm a group class.

Intro to Strings

(Gr 2-5)

The Intro to Strings course for children in Grades 2-5, is designed to give a basic introduction to the violin, viola, cello and bass.  Students will learn proper left/right hand techniques, anatomy of the instrument, how to produce a sound, and simple musical concepts.  Students would also work on rhythms and simple songs, in addition to the basic instrument posture/bow hold.   The course would then go on to teach more challenging beginning strings music and expand on concepts and techniques to get the student ready for further group or individual study. (60 minutes)

Materials Needed: Instrument & Accessories; Lesson/Method Book(s); Music Stand

Group Guitar JR

(Gr 1-3)

This course is for beginning guitar students in Grades 1-3, and functions as a general introduction to the guitar. Students will learn proper left/right hand techniques, rhythm, musical notation, chords, improvisation, and tuning. Literature will be selected from various genres both for the solo guitar as well as the guitar ensemble. Students must provide their own instrument (or contact GRSM for rental options), and recitals are included in tuition. (30 minutes)

Dates: October 4 – January 17 (11 lessons – no class Nov 8, 29, Dec 20, 27, Jan 3

Time: 3:30-4:00pm

Tuition: $165

Materials Needed: Instrument & Accessories; Lesson/Method Book(s); Music Stand (a limited number of guitars may be available for take-home rental of $20/month)
